History of the Pocket Square Valet: Stranger Than Fiction

I've gotten lots of compliments on the Pocket Square Valet, but most people don't know it started out as a Little Caesars pizza box!

When I began collecting squares, things got out of hand quickly. One, two, or three squares you can stick in a drawer, and it's no big deal. But once I passed five, they always got messed up when I dug through them to find the one I wanted. I realized I had find another solution. I checked out Amazon, and if you're willing to treat your squares like women's scarves, you can buy some contraption and hang them in your closet. Googling "pocket square storage" showed me some guys were stuffing them in drawers, like me, while others were pre-folding them and putting them in jacket pockets. This seemed to defeat one of the best things about a pocket square: they're blank slates, and you can fold them to match however you feel that particular day! Someone I talked to recently has been wrapping them around a CD box and putting them in a case. Or something. I never quite got the image right in my head.

Then I thought of using a pizza box. The large ones are big like pocket squares, right? And even though the squares would be on top of one another, at least I could sit them up on a shelf in the closet, which would free up my drawer, and take them all down at once to dig through.

So I got an unused box from my local Little Caesars. But instead of folding the sides up, I just used it flat, folding it in half like a clam shell and holding it closed with a big, black binder clip. And what was strange was the whole arrangement worked better than I expected! I could layer the squares, so I could see all of them at one time. Plus, I could take my whole collection with me when I'd go traveling. I also found the wrinkles would smooth out quickly, due to the gentle pressure from the top and bottom of the box. After about nine months of constant use, I decided I'd design something a little classier than a pizza box, and offer it to my fellow sartorialists!

I love classic men's fashion, as I know you do too. The Pocket Square Valet is my small contribution to our shared passion. I hope you enjoy yours. Let me know what you think! --Simon
